Frequently asked questions

Do I need to replace all of my V1 sensors today?
Most likely no. Sensors placed indoors and those that are shielded from extreme cold are still expected to perform well for at least 5 years. In extreme cold, sensors start to underperform within 1-2 years. We suggest replacing all sensors which have already experienced reading malfunctions or are exposed to cold weather environments.
Why are you upgrading my sensors?
The Pulsa High Pressure / Headspace and Differential Sensors contained a CR2032 battery. Over the past winter, we realized that the battery malfunctioned in frigid temperatures, causing data issues for some customers, including dips in measurements.
What did you do about the battery issue?
We designed brand-new Pulsa sensors that house a new battery (3.6V/ 1/2 "AA" Lithium Battery). We tested these in frigid temperatures and can confirm that they perform with greater reliability. The new battery has a life of 7 years.
What’s the difference between the old and the new sensors?
The updated sensors, (v2) hold a more robust battery that is better suited for extreme environments. To accommodate the new battery type, we redesigned the sensors so they have a taller top. As you can see in the images below, the new Pulsa Sensors stand approximately 1/2” taller. Changing the battery is also much easier.
How does this affect me?
By replacing the sensors you can help ensure that your customers won’t experience disruptions when the weather is cold.
What do I need to do?
You can choose from two options:

A. Start replacing your sensors at no charge* through our Pulsa sensor replacement program. Tell us what you’d like to order now.
B. Keep your sensors, but be aware of the risks and how to minimize them.

*Pay for the new v2 sensors and service fee upfront. When you install a new v2 sensor and remove your old v1 sensor, you’ll automatically receive full credit for the cost of the new v2 sensor and the prorated amount of your annual service fee for the old v1 sensor
How does billing work?
You’ll fill out the order interest form to indicate the quantity of v2 sensors you will need. Then a Pulsa employee will call you to go over your order and place it. At that time you will pay for the new v2 sensors and service fee upfront. Install the new sensors when it makes sense for you. When you install a new v2 sensor and remove your old v1 sensor, you’ll automatically receive a full credit for the cost of the new v2 sensor. There’s no need to tell Pulsa when you install a new sensor, we’ll get alerted through the dashboard.
How do I replace my sensors?
When replacing the sensor, follow the prompts in the dashboard. We’ve created an easy tutorial to show you how to replace the v1 sensor with the v2 sensor.

Risks of not upgrading your Pulsa sensors

In cold temperatures, your sensor battery can become unstable and miss measurements or report zero values. Here’s just one example of what your dashboard could look like when a sensor malfunctions due to frigid temperatures.

At Pulsa, we pride ourselves on the accuracy of our sensors’ measurements. If any measurements are ever off for any reason, please contact us immediately.
