Getting to Know Pulsa Link Part 2: How It Works.

Bring Pulsa benefits to your third-party sensors

Pulsa Link is the easiest and most cost-effective way to bring the benefits of the Pulsa system to more of your gas inventory and it’s an instant upgrade. Whether the tanks, cylinders, or environmental assets have an existing third-party sensor, or legacy telemetry that is now obsolete because of the 3G sunset, Pulsa Link upgrades all of them into state-of-the-art telemetry and brings them into one convenient dashboard.

Pulsa Link is the easiest telemetry in the market to install

What’s involved with this upgrade? It begins with a connection to your third-party  sensors, and Pulsa has got them covered, no matter what systems you may have. We’ve engineered five different custom connectors in-house that can interface with tanks that cover 95% of use cases.

Pulsa Link Custom Connectors:

  • Link 0-5 (JWPF-3) for Rotarex C-Stic Lite
  • Link 0-5 (DB-9) for Rotarex C-Stic Industrial (SGB)
  • Link 4-20 (J12-4) for Cyl-Tec® Level-Eye® Digital Liquid Level Gauge & Wand and for Cyl-Tec CylConnect® Remote Monitoring Systems
  • Link 0-5 (M8-5) for Chart WIKA DP gauge 0-5V
  • Link 4-20 (M8-5) for Chart WIKA DP gauge 4-20mA

Even without a custom connector, the Link can be easily connected to any device with 4-20mA or 0-5V outputs. Think temperature sensors, CO2 ppm monitors, flow monitors, and more.

If you’ve already invested in other telemetry and are frustrated by the limitations, retrofitting them to the Pulsa platform is simple and the upgrade takes just minutes. Suppose you’ve got older or less-sophisticated telemetry products that aren’t providing the intelligence or convenience that you need. In that case, Pulsa Link can make them new again and add best-in-class capabilities including:

  • “High frequency” readings
    • Readings flow into the Pulsa Dashboard hundreds of times per day
  • Customized alerts
    • Assign alerts to team members who need to be in the know. They are tied to high-frequency readings so Pulsa is the only way to know immediately when there’s a leak and know when it’s time to refill
  • Unprecedented reliability via cellular
    • Pulsa partners with 400+ cellular networks including all major U.S. carriers across 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G. We take reliability seriously
  • Historic information and trends
    • Pulsa is more than monitoring, it’s a historical record of your customers’ consumption behavior
  • and more!

These newly added powerful capabilities will not only help to make your business more efficient and profitable, but you will be able to serve your customers better than ever. For example, your team will be able to easily troubleshoot issues remotely, and know immediately when there’s a leak or a small problem so you can prevent it from becoming a big one.

There’s no other solution in the market that gives you this innovative collection of vital features that allows you to stand out among the competition.

How Pulsa Link signals are transmitted to the Pulsa Dashboard

Once tank sensors have been upgraded with the Pulsa Link, they’re ready to communicate with the Pulsa Gateway. Data is transmitted every few minutes from the Link-enabled tank to the Gateway via the 2.4 GHz band. Each Pulsa Link can wirelessly send data up to 350 feet of line of sight to the Pulsa Gateway. Pulsa Gateways are plug-and-play and make retrofitting quick and easy. Both 5V-powered plug-in and solar-powered versions are available to suit every site's needs. Once the Gateway receives its data from any type of Pulsa sensor – pressure, weight, etc. – it sends it to the Pulsa Dashboard via a modern cellular connection, again, covering more than 400 different cellular providers.  Many customers operate outside the stable coverage areas of giant providers like Verizon and AT&T. For distributors that serve customers in these fringe or out-of-range regions, Pulsa offers a great opportunity for new telemetry.

Final setup steps for the Pulsa Link

Assuming you’ve already created a Pulsa account, your dashboard will be ready to receive readings shortly after the Link and the Gateway have made their first communication. Note: there are no phone calls required for setup with Pulsa! Install on your schedule, not ours. At this point, you’ll be prompted to create a “Profile” for the tank that’s been upgraded. Here you’ll create useful names such as Cooler A, Storage B, etc. and assign the desired values for the measurements, such as pounds, PSI, inches, WC, etc. You will also be prompted to set a minimum and maximum fill value to determine percent full and set alerts later. In the Pulsa Dashboard, the Profiles can be sorted by various criteria, providing at-a-glance intelligence that’s updated continuously throughout the day. Learn more at our Help Center.

That’s all there is to it. Connect the Link to your third-party device and your nearby Gateway will begin transmitting measures to the Pulsa Dashboard in just a few minutes. Now you have more visibility and you're up to date with the most powerful telemetry solution on the market.
